Travel Insurance for Volunteers

If you are travelling on one of our Great Projects you may now be looking for the best travel insurance for your upcoming trip. If, however, you are still in the process of booking do not forget to mention travel insurance to us.

Most people who go on any type of volunteering project or holiday find it difficult to find travel insurance for all of the activities they will be taking part in. This is why we at The Great Projects have our very own bespoke, project-specific, travel insurance to offer our volunteers. This means that when you travel on any of our Great Projects you will be able to purchase insurance that will cover you for exactly what you will be doing whilst volunteering abroad.

We believe that safety and enjoyment are equally important when volunteering and therefore, one of our terms and conditions of booking is that you have adequate travel insurance in place before you travel with us.

The Great Projects is working in partnership with the Howden Group to offer our travellers a policy which has been specifically designed to meet their requirements whilst travelling. This insurance cover is for volunteers up to the age of 65 and has many activities covered as standard.

There are 3 different policies that you can select from, depending on the type of volunteer project or signature tour you are taking part in. These are as follows:

  1. Standard Insurance Policy
This will cover you for the majority of our projects and includes hands-on contact with animals, except snakes, crocodiles, alligators, sharks, hippos.
  2. Standard Insurance Policy (Including Category 1 Activities)
This will cover you for any project that may include scuba diving and additional sporting activities such as bamboo rafting or gorilla trekking.
  3. Standard Insurance Policy (Including Whale Shark Cover)
This will cover you for any of our projects which focus around whale shark conservation.

Policy benefits include:

  • Cover from 1 day up to a year
  • Cover for working with animals
  • Cover for all activities you will take part in as part of your project
  • Cover for over 100 sports and activities

This table shows the maximum amounts payable, for each of the three policies, under each section. As the insurance policy is provided by the Howden Group, all claims are handled in GBP and payments made against claims are also paid in GBP.

NB: It is an advantage to take out your travel insurance at the time of booking your trip as cover will commence for pre-departure cancellation from the policy issue date.
