We are fast approaching the season of whale sharks in Mafia Island (October-February), where it is the best time of year to spot these sharks drifting along the surface of the waters and filtering plankton through their iconic mouths (which by the way, can be up to 5 feet wide!) Like much other vulnerable marine life, these beautiful fish face many threats including habitat loss which results in food scarcity, and so it is imperative they receive some positive human intervention!
